Fantastic experience: Athlone vet hospital has taken care of all my animals and I continue to bring them all there and our new pets because they’re the best one here in Athlone and always put your pets needs first. They are very caring and helpful, couldn’t recommend them enough. I have tried other vets here in Athlone before and nothing compares to them.

Fantastic experience: Brought my dog Mossy today for his KC vaccine. We made an appointment and we were seen straight away. All the staff we interacted with were very friendly and professional. In particular Aoidhin. I would recommend bringing your pets here as not only was it a great experience I got some free advice around some questions I had about my dog.

Negative experience: Charging 170€ for dog neutering , when others are charging half that price

Fantastic experience: We are so grateful to Tara and the team at Athlone Veterinary Practice for the care our dog Teddy received after he was knocked down. It was an extremely traumatic time for me and my children and for a while it was touch and go. Tara was incredibly caring and honest throughout. She kept in touch with us during Teddy’s treatment and afterwards, which meant so much during such a stressful time. Knowing Teddy was in such good hands helped us feel more at ease. One day myself and my children stayed with Teddy in the clinic for about an hour and we never felt rushed or unwelcome. The staff were so kind and clearly understand how emotional these situations are for families. Thank you to all the staff for your compassion and care.

Fantastic experience: We'll be forever grateful to the fabulous team at Athlone Veterinary Hospital. Our dog was very, very sick and her symptoms were beyond the remit of our former vet's skills, we rang and explained the scenario to Tara and 40 minutes later we were in an examination room with a probable diagnosis and prognosis. My dog stayed for 3 nights during which time the team saved her life. The aftercare has been meticulous. Their care, skill, professionalism and empathy is second to none. We've moved our 3 dogs to be under their care and would absolutely recommend their service to anyone. From reception/secretarial staff to nurses and vets these people love animals, it shows, and they are amongst the most professional team we've ever encountered. Keep up the amazing work, you guys are fantastic. Thanks for saving Socks.

Fantastic experience: 5 Stars from us. We had to contact them late at night for a big emergency. Tara was with us within minutes. She looked after our girl most of the night updating us throughout. Our dog spent two nights here and had excellent care and the most lovely staff looking after her. Helpful at all times with huge empathy and understanding of our worries and concerns. Lyndsey and Moya updated us with photos and phone calls and allowed us visit as much as we wanted. I would not hesitate in recommending this practice to anyone. Our dog has finished her medication and is good as new. We are a very happy family again. Special thank you to vets, Tara and Antoinette.

Fantastic experience: Athlone vet hospital have take care of many animals belonging to me over the years and I wouldn’t go anywhere else, I am always happy with their service and the kindness of the staff.

Negative experience: Absolutely shocking. From the very beginning to the end. We brought our dog here when he started having seizures out of nowhere. The girl was more concerned that he was still intact, and asked why he wasn't muzzled, even though our dog is not a restricted breed. They kept him overnight and monitored him while doing tests to figure out the problem. They sent him home with medication that I later discovered was a suitable dose for a cat (our dog is 50kg) He had seizures again and even worse 2 weeks later. They wanted to do CT scans. My gut told me to get a second opinion so we looked for another vet. This different vet went into so much more detail and asked so much more important questions that the Athlone Vets should have been asking from the beginning. Within half an hour they found the root cause by simply checking his stool and urine samples. How could athlone vets not check these basic things and prescribe a tiny dose is beyond me. Absolutely disgusted, as we could have lost our dog if we didn't get a second opinion. Also, with Athlone Vets, his 'check up' was the vet watching him walk out the window of the clinic. These people absolutely do not care and charged us a small fortune for not doing the basics. Please do not bring your beloved animals here as all they care about is money and that is very clear to be seen

Negative experience: Awful experience here with my dog brought her to the vet here about 3 weeks ago and she got totally misdiagnosed they were giving her anti seizure medication as that’s what I thought had happened at home, so I brought her in and they done all of her bloods and the came to the conclusion that she might have ate something poisonous and that is what caused this seizure, so they gave her antibiotics and steroids and off I went. Then about a week later maybe 10 days the same thing happened to her again only worse and once again back down to the vet I went for more anti seizure medication but it didn’t feel right she didn’t seem like she was getting any better so I went for a second opinion and as soon as I seen another vet I realised straight away that my dog had been completely misdiagnosed, she was being treated for something completely different and had I not went to this other vet my dog more than likely would be dead by now, these vets showed no care for my dog at all, all they seemed to care about was that I payed them for the visit and antibiotics and didn’t give a shit after that, I got no results of blood work no receipt nothing. The vet that I later went to gave me results of bloods receipts the whole lot. My dog had pancreatitis which means that she had an infection in her pancreas which the vet I now will be going too picked up straight away once her bloods came back and we were able to start treating it immediately, had it not been for this vet as I have said my dog would probably be dead. I will never go back to this place again ever and would never recommend to anyone ever. They are just a shower of money grabbing people who will not care for you animal one bit. Disgusting behaviour.

Negative experience: Almost lost my dog because of their negligence, they prescribed wrong dose on his steroids. My boy had 4 seizures yesterday morning. he got 20 times less dose than he needed which is insane.

Negative experience: Absolute shock I got when I found out the negligence from this place after I brought my dog for treatment not only did they fail to spot issues from the full tests they done on my dog they also prescribed the wrong dose of steroids for my dog that wouldn’t even be acceptable dose for a cat nevermind a big dog . I nearly lost my dog because of them and luckily I went to a different vet that could diagnose my dog within minutes and hopefully i got him just in time and he’s recovering now if i would have waited any longer he would have been gone so please beware before you bring your pets here !

Fantastic experience: The staff are so caring. And they look after my two boys Calvin a Cockapoo and Hugo a kinda Maticchon so well. In Calvins case they deserve a medal!

Positive experience: Extremely pleasant and helpful vet. Looked after our cat with meticulous care. Good parking. Slight draw back is vets room is small so only 1 person allowed in with animal which isn't ideal if you have small kids with you and have to stay in waiting room.

Negative experience: Held our dying cat to ransom after carrying out tests that we didn't agree to. Expected full payment before releasing her into our care which we didn't have but were told to "borrow from the credit union or family". She passed away peacefully in our arms with a compassionate local vet after finally getting her released into our care when we managed to pay. Would never trust this clinic with any of our beloved companions. Absolutely money-mad

Negative experience: Negligence, imprudence and unskillful and unknowledgeable, are the words that perfectly describe Atlone Vets owners,the clinic got a more complex and extraordinary situation and misdiagnosed my dog's health issue what led to her death. Upon request of our dogs medical history, we noticed that a couple of essential things were missing and there were additional points added on the record that were not discussed at all. After almost two months of grief in our hearts,we still struggling to accept that because of a vet's malpractice we lost a loved angel. If you are looking for a help for you loved pets , don't go at this veterinary hospital.

Positive experience: Wanted to give five stars as Triona is an amazing vet and always puts the animals first, and takes the time to explain everything to you however every time we go, despite having an appointment time, we are left waiting. The last time was a two hour wait and eventually I had to just leave. People need to get home, let childminders leave etc. If you have an appointment time it should be honoured. A few minutes delay is ok and understandable but two hours is unacceptable.

Negative experience: Overly preoccupied with profit to the detriment of animal care and welfare. Would not recommend.

Negative experience: Terrible! The vet had no people skills and made no attempt to build a rapport with my dog. Despite being told his name she kept referring to him as 'the dog'. Won't be taking him here again. Do NOT recommend.

Positive experience: You'd want deep pockets for this place, particularly if you get one of the vets in particular. However they are extremely competent. Also, they have no interest in helping wildlife.

Negative experience: Brought my cat in with puncture wounds from a rat, they bandaged her like a mummy, she couldn't move at all, wasn't getting better after days and she ended up getting an infection then after days spent in the surgery and just over a grand in bills, we ended up taking her to glasson vets, few stitches, antibiotics and was fine, forty euro that's some differences, and the poor thing was fine then

Fantastic experience: Excellent care from all staff, especially Triona they did a wonderful job looking after our kitten when she was run over and had broken hips, they also looked after the kittens daddy who had a run in, twice, with a fox. They have boarding facilities too. Highly recommended.
