I came with my cat because he has a cold and is struggling to breathe due to coughing, and they didn't know what was wrong with him. They just prescribed eye drops. The visit, including tests, cost 600€, only for them to give him eye drops. I do not recommend."

Fantastic experience: This review was given a year ago, but just wanted to add some detail as of 2026. Vet Care is and always will be my vet of choice. Everyone working in vet care from the nurses to the vets cares so much about the animal welfare and they really go out of their way to support owners. I know if I have to hand over my pet at the door they are going to give them care and love.

Negative experience: since Tom left this clinic, this clinic is a money-making machine, wrong diagnoses, very expensive, avoid this place never again!!

Fantastic experience: We had to bring our 17Year Old Lab here today to say goodbye. The care, attention and love that both the vet and nurse showed her was beyond angelic kindness. They were gentle, they never rushed our time with her and held her as if she were their own. For this, I'm so very very grateful. This isnt something that you learn, this is a kindness that is truly in your heart. I'm forever thankful that they were the people I met today when I said my final goodbye to my precious girl. Thank you both

Fantastic experience: We have been bringing our boxer George to vetcare portlaoise since he was a puppy an now he seeing his days with the help of the wonderful staff. We have always had excellent service an care for our animals.

Negative experience: So useless my partner went in just looking to get a cone for our kitten that has a wound and she's at it as he explaind and the woman at reception didn't care and was so rude! Said she can't "serve us" even tho we were just looking to get a cone wasent even asking for fitment or anything just simply to purchase a cone and rudly told him that it's to late and it was 40 mins until they were closedwon't be ever going there if she couldn't get a cone from the next room some hardship that must be

Negative experience: Absolutely useless vets they have can deal straight forward things but does not know nothing about dogs broght in my yorkie she swallow a bone after that she could not pass thru any food or even boil chicken i told vet it could be stuck in there she said no no it can be acid reflux or constipation gave me laxatract for poo and acid reflux tabs and 3 days my dog wont able eat anything broght into hospital today they found that therez a bone still stuck in oesophagus and they push it in stomach which was causing food not to pass thru they wasted 3 days on my dog left her in pain she could die there useless i do not care about money they charged me but do not trust them with serious problems with there dog there no good

Negative experience: Not proactive enough for bringing my cat with a long term illness and on medication in for regular appointments. I phoned ahead when my cat was dying and still had to wait at reception as the receptionist was busy on a phone call. I had to interrupt for the vet to come out (which was several crucial minutes) while the cat was dying. Haven't returned since.

Negative experience: I went for a consultation before the castration procedure. Due to the vet's carelessness and incompetence, despite assurances that they knew each other and dealt with small animals, I had to euthanize the rabbit because its spine was broken during the visit. I didn't even hear an apology from the vet. it was called an accident at work. the grief and sadness will remain with me for the rest of my life

Fantastic experience: Tom Spillane is a super vet..understands animal psychology and is very sensitive and gentle with the animals. ..He also wont keep taking money for this and that if he thinks the animal wont survive or is already suffering too much..He will tell you straight..! . I believe he should have his own radio spot.. He is an expert vet and a gentleman.wise choice...

Negative experience: Did not have a great experience today. Vet said it would cost €71. Went out to pay and receptionist said €82.48. I told her vet said €71 so she went in to check. He said that he had pressed the wrong button on computer. I told her I thought this was unreasonable and she asked in a fed up tone did I want to speak to the vet. I said is there any point and she just shrugged her shoulders. €11 is an expensive wrong button. Really disappointed with service

Negative experience: Really bad vet, avoid by all means. My dog was diagnosed that she is old without even taking an x-tray and she been diagnosed with cruciate ligament fraction at other vet clinic following e-trays and test. She's middle aged 8 years, but bad diagnosis at portlaoise vet care means she could already had a surgery and been in recovery. Very rude nurses too, especially Andrina Lyons.

Fantastic experience: My son's cat wasn't eating and drinking anything for two days before the visit. The whole thing was resolved measly 2 hours and one injection after the visit in the clinic. Turns out it was a fever. The service was professional and very informative. Thanks a bunch! Will visit again if something pops up!
