Negative experience: I recently moved to Portlaoise and needed a vet for my cat, who is on regular medication. I went to this clinic, signed up for their vet plan, and expected them to provide the support my cat needs. My cat’s medication is already expensive, but this clinic tried to charge double the price I can find elsewhere. When I asked for a prescription so I could buy it at a fair price, they flat-out refused and told me I had no choice but to purchase it from them. I left feeling like they cared more about squeezing as much money as possible from me than about my cat’s health. Either they prioritize profit over care, or they’re not even qualified to issue prescriptions—which would be even worse. I strongly advise anyone looking for a vet to think twice before trusting this place.

Negative experience: My partner had a very poor experience collecting our two cats who had been left in to be microchipped; the vet said she was not going to get injured any more as she couldn't get them into our carrier. (I believe the injury was a scratch from the cat which I'd expect vets to be used to. If the injury was more severe or life threatening than this I'll happily amend this review when I see a doctor's report). After declining the vets suggestion that she let one cat out freely in the car (I'm disgusted a professional vet would suggest a cat is transported openly in a car) my partner had to buy a second carrier from them when I was perfectly capable of getting both cats into our single carrier this morning. If you are a vet you should know how to deal with stressed animals in unfamiliar surroundings. Luckily there are other vets in the town so I don't have to return here.

Fantastic experience: They girls are always so lovely in there. I think Denny is probably one of the only dogs I know that is excited when walking the vets. (Loves the treats too) Denny had ear problems and stomach problems a few weeks ago and the staff were so good and reassuring. Definitely recommend

Negative experience: Couldn't warn people enough to stay way from this vets, they are money hungry bully's that have no clue what to do with animals, they charge people as they please I would highly recommend turlows vets in portlaoise Town way more affordable and they seem like they actually know what to do with animals I've had the worst experience here and then when I told them to get lost they threatened me with animal control for an ulcer in a dogs eye never heard anything like it

Negative experience: Very disappointed!!! Martha is a really wonderful personality , everything else is absolutely bad. No scanners, no X- Ray... Nurses absolutely rude, no attention, no Hello, no thank you,even not look at you.. Company rules for pricing is unbelievable, for the same problem I have been twice in one day and paid 240 euros, got several phone calls , says we must collect cat 17.45, but Ver closing at 18.00?! Next day, cat still have same problem, didn't feel better and again want charge me.. that nonsense! Didn't sorted problem, and charging and charging....Maybe we have to pay everyday just because we have pets??? Avoid!

Fantastic experience: Have used portlaoise veterinary clinic since they opened. Unless it was an emergency I wouldn’t attend anywhere else. Kiera and the girls are so lovely and thorough. I’ve never had a situation where I felt like we required a second opinion, our dogs and cat have been kept safe and healthy with the help of Kiera.

Negative experience: I am absolutely disgusted by this place. 5 years ago I went to them for advice on hand rearing 7 orphan puppies as their mother died when they were 3 days old. The vets advice.at the time was to put half of them to sleep in order to focus on the other half. We obviously ignored this and went elsewhere for help and we were able to take care of all 7 puppies ourselves and get them all new homes when they were 8 weeks old. I decided to give them another chance as my dog took a large fall from an upstairs window, in a separation anxiety panic, and this vet refused to see him. Our pup seems fine but we wanted to see a professional asap to make sure, but these guys refused to and told us to go see our regular vet, 40 minutes away. Completely unprofessional, uncompassionate, disgusting practice.

Negative experience: Up until Thursday, I would have given this vet 5 star. Our dog of 16 years died Thursday morning due to a murmur, she had been a regular at this vet, never any problems before. The vet herself is an absolute super star, very compassionate, exactly what you'd want in a vet. But the receptionist is the most cold, grumpy, uncompassionate person I have ever came across in such a compassionate job. Her phone manner is no better. We got our little girl cremated with this vet and it's the most impersonal and cold process. They told us to bring her in through the front to drop her off but when we got there there was too many kids and adults coming out from Iceland so we had to ask of there was a back way, they agreed and we brought her around the back. We had to lift her into a cold delivery shed and leave her on the ground wrapped in her favourite blanket. As heartbreaking as that whole process was, before I left my little girl, I bent down sobbing saying goodbye to my best friend of 16 years and the receptionist just stood there, staring, no consolement, no "it will be okay", nothing. I felt like I was keeping her from doing something. I may be going though anger from grief but you NEED to be compassionate in this job. Whether you're looking after an animal or a person, you need compassion and sympathy. Pets are FAMILY, not just an animal. People grieve for their pets like they lost a family member. Just because an animal died, doesn't mean you shouldn't care anymore. Because of this, I will not be bringing my other dog, who is 15, back here or any future pets. This practice lost my respect with how little compassion they showed for the death of my little girl and the cold , impersonal process that came along with it. Advice to the vet ? Employ staff who care about this job and have a passion for animals. Edit: they also wanted the money for the cremation up front before they would take our dog. Compared to other vets where they accept money when the ashes arrive back in a few weeks.
