Negative experience: My experience with this clinic has been concerning. My 8 months old was incorrectly identified as female because, as I was told, the genitals were “not yet developed.” This is basic veterinary knowledge- at that age, sex identification is straightforward and does not require advanced expertise. A simple check or even basic reference material would confirm this. At the following visit, a different veterinarian immediately identified the mistake — and did so with amusement. While this may have seemed trivial to them, I do not consider it acceptable. Beyond this, a more systemic issue is the complete lack of continuity of care. You rarely, if ever, see the same veterinarian twice. Each visit is transactional: you repeat the same information to a different person, with no clear evidence that the full clinical history is being properly reviewed or integrated into decision-making. From a clinical standpoint, this is problematic. Proper diagnosis requires longitudinal understanding — not just the last few weeks, but the animal’s entire medical history. WITHOUT CONTINUITY THE RISK OF MISDIAGNOSIS INCREASES SIGNIFICANTLY ! In my home country, it is standard to build an ongoing relationship between veterinarian, animal, and owner. This ensures better outcomes, reduces stress for the animal, and improves diagnostic accuracy through consistent oversight. In 2026, I find it difficult to justify a system that lacks even basic continuity of care.

Negative experience: If I could just give 0 stars... I am writing this review with immense grief and anger in the hope that no other family endures the pain we have. Our beloved pet did not die from a sudden illness, but from a long, torturous battle with diabetes that was directly caused by medication prescribed by this clinic. Our pet was initially treated with corticosteroids. At no point were we ever warned that diabetes is a known and serious potential side effect of these drugs. Not a verbal warning, not a pamphlet, nothing. We trusted them completely. When the symptoms of diabetes began—excessive thirst, weight loss—they were devastating. What followed was months of insulin injections, constant blood monitoring, frantic trips for glucose curves, and watching our once-vibrant companion suffer through a debilitating disease. We fought that battle every single day, but the damage was done. We recently had to say goodbye, a loss that has shattered our family. This clinic’s negligence in failing to obtain informed consent is unforgivable. We had a right to know the risks. Had we known, we could have asked about alternatives, or at the very least, been vigilant for the early signs. They took that choice away from us. They are not healers. A true healer respects the trust placed in them and communicates the dangers of the treatments they propose. This clinic administered powerful drugs with life-altering side effects and left us in the dark until it was too late. Do not trust them with your "family member". Their carelessness masked as treatment turned our home into a hospice and caused our pet years of suffering. They are, in the most tragic sense, soulless butchers in lab coats. Our deepest regret is that we ever walked through their doors. Look for a vet who practices true informed consent. Ask explicitly about the side effects of any medication they prescribe and do your own research beforehand! Do not let what happened to us happen to you!

Fantastic experience: Recent visit to Ark vets, St Mary's road, with my sick cat. Everyone was friendly, welcoming and efficient. I was seen within 5 minutes and I was very happy with the way the vet handled the issue. I have always found Ark vets to be very good to deal with. I have been attending there for 2 decades, having owned a dog who lived to be 18 and 2 cats who are now around 18 also.

Fantastic experience: Excellent vet and very helpful receptionist also. I have an outdoor semi wild cat and they were both so obliging and getting her seen early. The vet was very good with her and kept her very relaxed

Fantastic experience: We were referred to ark vets st Mary’s rd for dental x ray and dental surgery for our Persian cat ,Martin was the vet my wife dealt with and she said it was a 5 star experience from start to finish ,the way he dealt with our cat ,so gentle and caring ,the detail he went into explaining everything after the procedure .I would highly recommend without any hesitation .

Negative experience: Expensive!

Fantastic experience: My dog got knocked down in Salthill 2 weeks ago. Vet, Martin O' Malley gave himself such care that evening it was unbelievable. He was also so kind to my wife and kids that he managed to calm and reassure them that our little dog would be ok. I received a call from him on the following evening, Saturday 8pm , to enquire how he was doing. As we are from Laois, he was not chasing repeat business, just a true vocation and a very decent and caring man. I was flabbergasted at the level of care and aftercare we received. Fantastic experience: Would recommend the team at Ark Vets to any of my friends and their pets. They are kind to animals, and understanding and respectful to their owners as well. They comprehend that the pets are like our babies and that we worry about them. I felt heard and my concerns were addressed.

I particularly remember the great empathy and kindness shown when my lovely Benji had to be put to sleep a couple of years ago. I really can't imagine ever using another vet practice.

Negative experience: If you have a large dog with a cruciate ligament injury do not go here. Poor experience in 2020 . They wanted to charge me €1,800 for the TPLO surgery my dog needed. The surgeon here was so arrogant and no empathy shown to my dog. I brought her to the North of Ireland to a practice in Portadown. They treated my dog so well and an excellent surgery and outcome. I'm doing another review as I met a man recently who had the same experience with his small Scottie female. This practice wanted to charge him €1,500 for the TPLO op he went to a practice outside Longford on the Dublin road and paid €800. He agreed with me that the primary objective of Ark Vets is charging extortionate fees for any consultation and the arrogance that they are the only vets you can go to for excellent surgery. Well there are plenty of other skilled surgeons who have correct fee pricing processes.

Fantastic experience: Compassionate, committed competent, animal extinction wouldn't be a risk if the Ark's crew would rule the world, as I dream. Ark's people don't discriminate among human and non human species, all member of our families. They never spare anything to help, as they did when I called off duty during a storming night and the vet run to open the ambulatory and busted my pet.

Fantastic experience: Martin is a very kind and compassionate professional who went above and beyond to help as he always does, when we had our small exotic animal, who unfortunately ultimately this time developed a tumor, but you can recognise when a person really cares about their clients, patients and their profession, and not about profit, which REALLY means a lot. Could not recommend Martin and Ark enough.

Negative experience: I really regret bringing my dog in there for a check up. They messed up a removal of a tooth and my 13 yr old dog has to go under anesthesia again to fix it. Never again.

Fantastic experience: Can't overstate how friendly the staff are here. We've been twice and both times we were blown away by how caring and kind the staff were. We were able to get an appointment relatively quickly after calling. The vet takes good time to explain the situation and everything you need to know and don't rush you out the door .

Fantastic experience: Very good practice, staff are very knowledgable and respectful. Definitely the best practice in Galway along with the knocknacara practice. It can be difficult to find parking though, the vet has asked the traffic warden to allow people to park for 30mins if they leave an ark vet card on the dashboard, but it still doesn't help in finding a spot to park.
