Village Vets Kilmainham: Reviews
Positive experience: While Lucy the vet was amazing, I am transferring away from Village Vets to an independent vet. l called to get a presciption and was told they'd have to ask the vet. Grand. Heard nothing for 2 days (my dog has pulmonery hypertension) and when I called again, I was told "there's a note here to bring her in" Why did I not get a call? Since Village Vets took over from Carey & Keane, the service has deteriorated and costs have spiralled. Corporations buying up vet services is rampant in this country and I'm not partaking any more. See also Independent Vet Care (IVC) Ireland Ltd and Linnaeus (Mars Inc.) - check the footnotes of your vet's website for these names.
Hi Elaine,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re genuinely sorry to hear that this experience left you feeling disappointed and concerned.
We have carefully reviewed our records in relation to your prescription request. We can confirm that it was processed in line with our normal prescribing procedures. All repeat medications require veterinary review to ensure they are issued safely and appropriately. Where a patient is due a clinical examination, this must be completed before further medication can be dispensed, this is a professional and regulatory requirement designed to protect patient welfare.
Our records also show that follow-up contact was attempted promptly after the review. We appreciate, however, that if you did not receive or see that communication, it may understandably have felt like there was no response, and for that we are sorry.
When a pet has a serious ongoing condition, any perceived delay can understandably be stressful. Please be assured that patient safety and continuity of care are always our priority, and we work within clear clinical guidelines to ensure medications are prescribed responsibly.
We value all feedback and will continue to review our communication processes to see where we can improve clarity for clients.
Our team lead will contact you directly to discuss this with you further.
Thank you

Fantastic experience: My dog Paddy very nearly died a few months ago. It turned out he had a very aggressive cancer called Hemangiosarcoma (HSA) which was discovered during blood testing. I got a call while at work from Marte my vet. It was a devastating shock but she needed an answer to ‘do I let him go now while he is under or do I remove his spleen’. Paddy was 14. I couldn’t breathe, distraught and completely useless, so I asked her if she was me, what she would do. I’d probably remove the spleen. It may be contained. Theres always hope and it will give you more time. So she did. His spleen was riddled. The life span after HSA no longer than 89 days generally. That was 6 months ago and he is running around like a pup still. Im so grateful for that. Another vet saw his fresh scare and said and I quote; ‘That surgeon is very skilled’. Murphy got most of his teeth out yesterday and he was treated with such kindness, patience and care. The team are highly skilled, honest, open, kind, realistic, empathetic and just brilliant at what they do. Village vets in Kilmainham has a lovely team with a family atmosphere which I trust 100% to mind my 2boys. Thank you Marte and everyone there so very much, Gerry, Paddy & Murphy ❤️♀️
Dear Gerry,
Thank you so much for taking the time to share Paddy and Murphy’s story. Your words truly mean more to us than we can say.
We can only imagine how devastating that phone call must have been. Facing such an urgent and emotional decision for Paddy was incredibly difficult, and we’re so grateful for the trust you placed in Marte during that moment. Hemangiosarcoma is a heartbreaking diagnosis, and there are never easy answers — only the hope of more good time together. Seeing Paddy still enjoying life six months later, running around like himself, is something we’re deeply thankful for. He is a very special boy.
Your kind words about Marte’s skill and the care shown to Murphy during his dental procedure mean a great deal to our whole team. We always strive to be honest, compassionate, and realistic while doing everything we can for the animals entrusted to us. Knowing that you feel supported, informed, and able to trust us with your two boys is the highest compliment we could receive.
Thank you again, Gerry, for your trust, your openness, and your appreciation. It is truly a privilege to care for Paddy and Murphy, and to be part of their journey with you.
Kind regards

Negative experience: I brought a stray dog to this clinic at 8am after finding him running in traffic. I was on my way to work and asked if they could hold the dog for one hour until the dog warden opened at 9am. The manager refused, stating they were not a shelter, and offered no empathy or practical advice on how to keep the dog safe. I was left in the position of trying to prevent a vulnerable animal from being put back onto a busy road while needing to get to work. I understand policies exist, but the complete lack of compassion or willingness to help in any way was extremely disappointing, especially from a veterinary practice.
Hello Lorna,
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We’re very sorry that you felt unsupported during a stressful situation with a stray dog.
While we are always happy to scan microchips and help try to locate an owner, our clinic is not a shelter and, at times, we are unable to take in strays due to a full surgery schedule and inpatients.
Our team always aims to offer practical guidance and support within the limits of our capacity, including advice on contacting the authorities and posting on social media. We regret that this did not meet your expectations, and we appreciate your concern for the dog’s safety.
Kind regards

Fantastic experience: Thankful for the team at Village Vets. Our vet, Marte, has been excellent and we are eternally grateful. Having a puppy with several health issues hasn’t been easy, but knowing we have a vet like Marte who is so knowledgeable and empathetic has made things so much easier. I truly know my dog, Fig, is in safe hands with the team here. You can see the love they have for their patients, and it eases my anxious mind every time my dog has to go in again! The staff at reception are so lovely too. Everyone here is so caring, highly recommend choosing them as your vets.
Hello Mairead,
Thank you so much for your wonderful feedback.
We’re delighted to hear that Marte and the whole team have been able to support you and Fig through their health journey. Knowing that your dog feels safe and cared for is exactly why we do what we do.
Marte and the team will be thrilled by your kind words, and we’ll be sure to pass on your thanks to reception as well.
We truly appreciate your recommendation.

Fantastic experience: We have been going here for years.About a year ago they discovered that my dog Toby had a heart condition. They have looked after him very well-seeing specialist's, x-ray's,ultrasound' s,blood tests and on going medication. He has just turned 10 and is doing great.I highly recommend this company. More recently my dog got very sick very quickly and thanks to the Vet who saved his life by sending us immediately to the Vet Hospital in UCD for further tests and scans and life saving treatment for his inflamed gall bladder. Toby stayed there for 2 days and spent another day in the Kilmainham Vets on IV fluids, treatment drugs and pain killers .The following day they gave Toby an injection so he could attend my son's wedding and continue his treatment at home. I don't have words to thank you enough for all that Martha and her team did for my dog Toby! March 2025 My dog is nearly 12 now despite his near brush with death with an inflamed gall bladder above and his 3 year old heart murmur and the occasional knee injury and a couple of eye infections he has been doing very well the last few years with the absolutely brilliant work of Marte and her team at Kilmainham Village Vets and their treatments which have included specialist treatment for inflamedgall bladder and heart murmurs like heart specialists, ultrasound scans,X-ray's . ect.I don't have enough words to thank you for all that you have done for my dog Toby over all these years!!I highly recommend Marte and her team at Village Vets Kilmainham!!! July 2025 We were able to see the Vet in a matter of hours as I was worried about Toby when he had a bad case of diarrhoea and there was fresh blood on his bottom! The vet examined thoroughly and said that he had picked up a bad stomach infection that he picked up from other dogs possibly. He had been at the groomers the previous day. His stomach was very painful and she gave him an injection for the pain. The Vet has given some meds to take at home some tablets to take every 8hours and some special food and we are due to return next Tuesday or come immediately if he gets worse!Thank you so much for looking after Toby so well!Every one of the staff have been so good to us both again!!I highly recommend the vets and all the staff at the Village Vets Kilmainham! January 2026. My Dog Toby spit up an orange liquid for 2 days running and I thought it was his inflamed gall bladder coming back so we got to see Marte as soon as possible but luckily it was an upset stomach which cleared quickly with meds.He also had an eye infection and that is also clearing up with eye drops. My 12 and half year old toy poodle is now like a 2 year old with all the fantastic care he has received from Marte and her team at the Village Vets Kilmainham since he was a puppy!I highly recommend Marte and her team and all the staff at the Village Vets Kilmainham!
Thank you for the kind review, Valerie! We're so glad Toby is doing well and I will be sure to pass this onto our team.

Negative experience: Avoid if possible, this vet uses people’s pets for financial gain. My cat needed 2 vaccines, but Village Vets turned it into 4 because the repeatedly forgot to send reminders which they told us they would, therefore doubling the price from €140 to €280. Wouldn’t say it was an accident as it happened repeatedly. We didn’t get as much as an apology and offering 10% off one vaccine just simply isn’t good enough, especially when you are at fault for the price of 2 extra vaccines. I phoned village vets asking the speak with the manager about the matter as we were both very frustrated and disappointed this this vets was trying to charge us double the cost for something that was their own fault. I was told the manager is in a meeting, but she will call you back after. That was 10 days ago, I never heard a thing from them. As I said, do avoid if possible. Hello Village Vets, I have proof of phone records from my phone company to prove there was no attempt to call me on 07/01/2026 at 12.59pm and no voicemails received. To note, I phoned to discuss the matter on 31/12/25 and was told I would get a call back that day. In addition, regardless of an appointment on 27th of December, there’s was no form of confirmation or communication to inform us of the appointment (how do we know to attend an appointment that we haven’t been told about) and this was at the fault of Village Vets. I was explicitly told I would get confirmations of the appointment as well as reminders. If you are going to say that reminders are an aid to customers, then you’re staff are giving false information and need to be trained to advise customers that of this, because this is not what I was told.
Hello Blaithin,
Thank you for your feedback. We would like to clarify that Marte, our Lead Vet, attempted to contact you on 07/01/2026 at 12:59; however, there was no answer at that time.
We would also like to note that a vaccination appointment scheduled for 27th December was missed, which contributed to the delay in completing the vaccination course.
While we do provide text reminders as a helpful courtesy, these are intended as an aid rather than something to be relied upon entirely. Ultimately, responsibility for keeping pets up to date with their vaccinations rests with the owner.
We regret that this situation caused frustration and appreciate the opportunity to clarify the timeline. Should you wish to discuss this further, we would be happy to do so and encourage you to contact the practice so we can address any outstanding concerns.
Kind regards

Fantastic experience: Excellent care taken of Jake again. They are very knowledgable, efficient but caring too. Jake doesn't mind going there which says it all- would recommend.
Hi Rob, It's always a pleasure seeing you and Jake. Although it's not always wonderful to bring your pet to the vet, we try our best to make it as smooth a process as possible. Thank you for your appreciation, it means a lot! best wishes, the team at Village vets Kilmainham

Negative experience: I’ve since edited this to include a message after reading your reply, Village Vets. Correct the second vaccine was missed requiring a restart. However the whole point is that this was missed at fault of village vets. I was told I would be contacted with reminders/ appointment confirmations with my account. I am not a vet and if I am told this why on earth would I book in myself ?What does a staff member scheduling an appointment on my account have to do with reminders/ the electronic system procedures you use ? Secondly, Sue did not in fact speak to me at all. She came in to the room pulled up my file and obviously could see there was something not right and offered 10% off my third vaccine and left the room. So I was offered €7 off as a “good will gesture” for a €280 total bill (which should only cost €140 to begin with). When I asked to speak to the manager again because this wasn’t good enough, she basically refused and hid out the back. Lastly, that is simply untrue. Not a single phone call or email has come through from village vets to myself after the incident. I also got my partner to ring in and she was told the manager was in a meeting and would call back - it’s been 2 weeks and no call back. So I now have a cat which I’ve paid for a full vaccine run (€140) and does not have full immunity due to your errors. I suggest having your facts straight before adding smart replies to reviews in future. My phone number and email are still the same if you’d like to actually reach out this time.
Hello Cian,
We’re sorry to hear about your experience. We did notice that the second vaccine appointment was missed, which required a restart of the process. On the day, Sue spoke with you about this and offered a goodwill discount, even though the missed appointment had been booked in advance. We understand there was a concern about reminder messages, but the appointment had been scheduled on your account.
We did try reaching out to discuss this further, but were unable to connect. Our goal is always to provide a smooth and positive experience, and we’d be happy to speak directly to clarify or resolve any concerns.
Kind regards

Fantastic experience: I always have a great experience here. Jasmine is amazing and always goes above and beyond.
Thanks so much for taking the time to leave us this review Rebecca.
Fantastic experience: I've been a longtime customer of Village Vets Kilmainham since they took over from Carey and Keane. Unfortunately we had to say goodbye to my beloved dog Monty due to illness. Monty was my best friend, and it was truly the most difficult decision I've ever had to make. I cannot thank all the staff at Kilmainham enough for their kindness, compassion and support, particularly Siobhan. She is a credit to not only Village Vets, but also to her profession. Her gentle support and professionalism meant the world to us. We also have a nervous reactive dog, who can be difficult to manage however, the staff in kilmainham never run out of patience or understanding for him.
Hello Ashleigh,
Thank you so much for sharing your experience.
We are deeply sorry for your loss of Monty and know how difficult that decision must have been. It means a great deal to hear that our team, especially Siobhan, could provide the kindness, compassion, and support you needed during such a heartbreaking time.
We’re also glad to hear that our team’s patience and understanding have made a difference for your nervous dog.
Your trust and kind words truly mean a lot to all of us at Village Vets Kilmainham.

Negative experience: I feel like it’s overpriced and the idea I was brought had no options for treatment, other places gave me more ways to try
Hello Lyubov,
Thank you for your feedback. While we’re unable to discuss specific medical details in a public forum, we can confirm that following diagnostic imaging, a range of different options were discussed with you.
These options included further investigation, referral, and supportive management, and we aimed to explain the reasoning, benefits, and limitations of each approach so you could make an informed decision.
We understand that situations like this can be stressful and emotional, and we’re sorry that your experience did not meet expectations. We always strive to communicate openly and compassionately, and we remain happy to discuss any concerns directly with you in confidence.
Kind regards

Fantastic experience: Village Vet Kilmainham - Exceptional Care! I can’t recommend Village Vet enough! The entire team is warm, professional, and truly dedicated to their patients. A very special mention goes to Claire, who has been absolutely amazing with my cat, Mimikos. Her kindness, expertise, and genuine care made all the difference during a very stressful period for me. Claire took the time to explain everything clearly, supported me every step of the way, and treated Mimikos as if he were her own. If you’re looking for a veterinary clinic where your pet will receive top-level treatment along with compassion and understanding, Village Vet Kilmainham is the perfect place. Highly recommended!

Fantastic experience: The Staff are just fantastic and also so helpful, they fit my furbaby in at last minute last night as it was an emergency, Marley has had 2 procedures and needs a 3rd one soon and i know i can trust Village Vets with her, i would highly recommend Village Vets Kilmainham
Hi Tanya,
Thank you for your kind review. It is always a pleasure to have yourself here with us. We look forward to seeing you again soon. We hope you are both keeping well.
Fantastic experience: Generally Village Vets very helpful. But if ordering medication and there is a shortage, a prescription should be provided to get in a pharmacy, shouldn't have to also ask for this. Our priority should be our pets wellbeing.
Hello Pamela, thank you so much for your lovely review. Caitriona is an amazing person, vet and friend and will be missed alot by our team and clients.
Fantastic experience: village vets done a great job treating my 13 year old cat bertie the vet obie was very caring and kind.
Hello David,
Thank you so much for your kind review and these 5 stars.
We are delighted you were happy with the service we provided.
Negative experience: Good when it was Carey & Keane but I had a devastating experience here with my 18-year old cat, who had become very weak. Ovi said she was old, diagnosed kidney disease and said I would need to consider euthanasia down the line. I took her to the family vet down the country and received some real interest and care and a more accurate blood work diagnosis of anaemia. I was told that the kidney markers were elevated but not critical. In the end she overheated on a hot day and I had to rush her here. I requested an ultrasound which found a mass in her heart. They recommended euthanasia then and there, gave me five minutes to say Goodbye and I went home without her. I was too stunned to say “Wait, give her some pain relief and let me just take her home for an hour or two.” Chiara was nice but the atmosphere is weird in this practice. They took the monthly payment from my account the day after euthanising her, and they lost the carrier I took her in. Sent a sweet card with her paw prints but then didn’t reply to my acknowledgment of that. She was my buddy and I felt like I let her down by bringing her to this inconsistent, contradictory place. Rather than add a picture of the practice I’m adding a picture of my loyal friend.
Hello Sarah,
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience, and we are truly sorry for the heartbreak you've been through. Losing a companion of so many years is devastating, and we understand how raw and difficult this must still feel.
We’re saddened to hear that your visits with us left you feeling unsupported during such an emotional and urgent time. Our team strives to provide clear communication, compassion, and consistency in every interaction, and it’s clear from your account that we fell short of that for you and your cat.
We would appreciate the opportunity to speak with you directly so we can review what happened, address your concerns, and make sure no other owner feels the way you did. Please contact us at your convenience via phone or email ( [email protected]) and we’ll ensure that someone from our senior team is available to talk with you.
Thank you

Fantastic experience: Ovi, Chiara, Claire and two other girls whose names we unfortunately didn't get, were just fantastic with our Bella. While she is still recovering from surgery, our experience in Village Vets was incredible. Thank you so much for your genuine care and attention.
Thank you so much, Shaneen! We’re delighted to hear that you and Bella had such a positive experience with our Kilmainham team. Ovi, Chiara, Claire, and the rest of the team will be so touched by your kind words. We’re wishing Bella a smooth and speedy recovery - thank you for trusting us with her care!
Fantastic experience: Harvey had his teeth cleaned and everything went great. Lovely staff took great care of him.
Hello Brian,
Thank you for sharing your kind feedback! We’re so happy to hear that Harvey’s dental visit went smoothly. Our team loved looking after him — he was such a star!
Negative experience: This was my second — and hopefully last — bad experience with this clinic. I honestly don't believe the staff are well-qualified. Being kind and smiling is not enough when you work in this field; it's about solving problems and truly helping animals. Yesterday (October 16, 2025), I went back urgently because my dog had been choking for 15 minutes — he could only breathe with his mouth open and was clearly struggling. They told me I'd be seen in two minutes, but I waited for over an hour while other people with regular appointments were seen first. Apparently, watching a dog unable to breathe isn’t considered urgent. In desperation, I stepped outside to try to help him myself, and he started choking worse. I rushed back in and at that point, he began sneezing violently — to the point a piece of grass appeared in his nose (I even took a photo while trying to pull it out). Only when they saw me with my phone out did they begin to act with a bit more urgency. The whole time he was visibly in distress, his chest was tightening and he was clearly suffering. They finally took me into a room, opened his mouth, watched him breathe for a moment, and sent us home — €65 later. I even asked the vet to at least clean out his nasal passages and she refused. Her only suggestion was, “If you want, I could give him an anti-inflammatory, but I don’t know...” I find it shameful, honestly — first, that an animal in visible pain was left waiting while routine appointments were prioritized, and second, that they made me go into the consultation room only to do nothing. If you're not going to treat him, at least be transparent. My first bad experience was back in September when I had to travel with my dog by plane. I went in to ask whether he needed to get the rabies vaccine again. They said no, and I asked for a certificate stating he was fit to fly. I also mentioned that I would return in two weeks for the antiparasitic treatment. Instead of advising me to wait and do everything in one visit, they charged me around €65. When I expressed my confusion to the receptionist, I later received an email saying, “It's the owner's responsibility to be informed about what's required for traveling with their pet.” Quite the response, considering they work with animals and supposedly know the regulations — which they've advised me on in the past. I had to return again, and to top it off, they made sarcastic comments like, “Want another certificate? It is free of Charge“. Of course, I fully expect a response to this review with some kind of excuse — that's often the case. When the reviews are positive, everyone is happy, but when someone shares a negative experience, instead of offering a sincere apology or acknowledging the mistakes made, the tendency is to justify or deflect. That, in itself, speaks volumes.
Hi Tania,
We’re very sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your recent experiences at our clinic, and we completely understand how upsetting it can be when your pet is unwell or when expectations aren’t met.
Regarding your most recent visit, our team triaged your dog on arrival and determined that he was stable and not in respiratory distress, which allowed us to see him at the next available appointment. When examined, he had already sneezed out the grass and was clinically well. Our vet discussed the safest options for further investigation, including endoscopy if required, to ensure no risk of pushing a foreign object further into the airways.
In relation to your visit in September for travel advice, our team followed the relevant travel guidelines and offered further discussion to clarify any questions at the time. We’re sorry if this communication caused any frustration or confusion - that was never our intention.
We always aim to provide the highest level of care and clear communication for every client and pet, and we regret that your experience did not reflect that. Our Head Vet, Dr. Marte Kristiansen, would be happy to discuss this further with you directly, so please feel free to contact the clinic.
Kind regards,
Village Vets Kilmainham
Negative experience: Brought our bulldog down on Tuesday, was left standing at the counter like a spare one until she finished fixing the displays and studying her desk, Vet seen to the dog and half diagnosed him and put him on meds which all came to about 400+, Unfortunately the meds did not take effect and we decided to put him to sleep, called up and asked about a payment plan or give us 2-3 days to sort the bill, no! "You will just have to keep him til tuesday" we were told, I thought the welfare of the animals came first, shameful and disgusting attitude. Needless to say we brought our lad elsewhere and the treatment and respect shown were night and day. Im disgusted at village vets and I hope they go look into the possibility of adjusting their policies and put the animals welfare before their card machine. The place has dropped in standards and humanity since jp retired, I would not go back, if I could give zero stars I would. Shameful

Thank you for bringing this to our attention, and once again, we are truly sorry for your loss.

Negative experience: If i could give 0 stars i would Only care about money, took 340e off me last Tuesday for my dog, perfect no bother anything to make him better. Tablets didn't work and we knew it was his time to go. Called back on Friday to say we will need to put him to sleep but we wouldn have the financial means for another BIG bill so close to paying the 340e, to be told basicly they wouldn't put him to sleep until i had the money. Cried down the phone because my dog was suffering to be told sorry we can't help. We lost our boy Saturday Morning the People at Cara Vets couldn have been more helpful & supportive with us... Unlike Village Vets who i might aswel have been asking for a mortgage no empathy, nothing. Not about the animals atal just Money. Have been bringing our dogs here YEARS when it Carey & Keane... And NEVER treated so appalling

Thank you for bringing this to our attention, and once again, we are truly sorry for your loss.

Thanks so much for your lovely review Lisa.
Fantastic experience: Everything on time and treated my cat very well as always :)
Thank you so much Ciara.
Fantastic experience: Always a great service. Highly recommend for your furry family members.
Hello Laura,
Thank you so much for your kind words and this 5 star review.
Fantastic experience: Everything really good...all staff and Vets. Zeus and Chloé live Dr Marte.
Thank you so much for your kind review.
Fantastic experience: It was the first Vet visit with my puppy and he felt so comfortable. Of course I hope I don’t have to visit them a lot but if, I know my puppy is in very good hands!
Thank you so much for your kind words! We’re thrilled that your puppy felt comfortable on their first visit. While we hope you won’t need us too often, it’s wonderful to know you feel confident that your puppy is in good hands whenever you do. We look forward to seeing you both again!
Positive experience: Had an issue over my dog not being given the appropriate vaccinations for travel. It took a while (3 months) but the practice were eventually able to refund me the associated costs. It's the first time I've had a signfiicant issue, so I'm giving the practice another chance :)
Hello Alison, we are very sorry to hear about your experience in our clinic. Can you please send us an email to [email protected] and we can look into this for you.
Fantastic experience: Absolutely amazing service! All of the girls are super friendly and so accommodating! Specially Nicky she is so helpful and always finds a way to get you an appointment!
Hi Orla,
Thank you for your wonderful review! We’re so glad to hear that you’ve had such a positive experience with our Kilmainham team. Your kind words about Nicky will mean a lot to her - we’ll be sure to pass them on.
We really appreciate your feedback and look forward to welcoming you and your pet again soon.
Kind regards,
The Village Vets Kilmainham Team
Fantastic experience: We needed an emergency appointment for our injured cat, Village Vets were so accommodating even though we weren't registered with them, the clinic is spotless and the staff are fantastic, would highly recommend
Hi Mark,
Thank you so much for your kind words! We’re glad we could be there for your cat in an emergency and that you had such a positive experience with our team. We really appreciate your recommendation.
Kind regards,
The Village Vets Kilmainham Team
Negative experience: After almost 20 years with our old vet (before it became Village Vets), it looks like we’ll be taking our business elsewhere. Since switching to the Kilmainham branch for convenience, the service has gone downhill with mistake after mistake. The latest blunder? The vet forgot to record our dog’s vaccination on their system — meaning we had to waste more of our own time bringing the card back in so they could fix it. We received an apology, but apparently the manager “couldn’t do anything” as a goodwill gesture — not even a token €5 credit to our account. After two decades of loyalty, this is how they treat customers. It really makes you wonder if these rapidly expanding franchises are more focused on growth than on maintaining basic standards of care. Completely unacceptable
Hi there,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re sorry for any confusion caused when a previous vaccination was not recorded on our system. While this was an administrative error, we can confirm that there was no charge made for the vaccination in question.
We understand this still caused frustration, and we appreciate you bringing your vaccination card back so we could update our records. We’ll continue to review our processes to help minimise the chance of similar errors occurring in future.
If you would like to discuss your visit further, please feel free to contact us directly.
Kind regards,
The Village Vets Kilmainham Team
Fantastic experience: super friendly and accommodating!!! Excellent and professional experience from reception to Veterinarian. We are new to the area and in need of care. They squeezed us in providing wonderful care.
Dear Edward,
Thank you so much for your kind words! We’re absolutely delighted to hear that you had a great experience with us. Our team works hard to provide the best possible care, and knowing that we made a positive impact means the world to us.
We look forward to seeing you again soon!
Best wishes,
Village Vets Kilmainham team
Fantastic experience: I’ve taken in two rescue cats, and Village Vets have gone above and beyond for both. Whether it’s been an emergency or a routine visit, they’ve shown nothing but kindness, patience, and genuine care. I always leave feeling like Frank and Spud are truly looked after. I couldn’t recommend them more!
Hello Amber,
Thank you for sharing your experience with Frank and Spud. We’re honoured to be part of their care and it means a lot to hear you feel supported and cared for. Rescue pets are very special to us, and we’re always here whenever they need us.
Fantastic experience: Called there to get my dog checked.Straight away I knew I had chosen the right surgery to go to.The vet was soo competent in her delivery of the service. She listened respectfully to my dogs complaints as relayed by myself, she then also thoroughly carried out her own tests as well .She explained what she was going to do and brought the dog off after doing a few things while we were there and was back in about 15 mins with a plan . Depending on blood results etc which she thought should be ok she arranged for some work on his teeth which were in a bad way and were probably a source of some discomfort to our dog who is really a family member just like the rest of us. I have total and complete trust in this veterinary surgery and could not highly recommend it enough. All the staff are so professional and kind. I traveled from Dundalk to Dublin to use this practice as I do every time and will do again in the future if need be.If you really love your animal this is the place to go.Gerard D.
Thank you so much for your incredibly kind and thoughtful words. We’re truly touched by your trust in our team and so glad you and your dog felt cared for and listened to throughout the visit. It means the world to us that you travel all the way from Dundalk to see us - and we’re honoured to support a much-loved member of your family. We’ll be here whenever you need us.
Fantastic experience: This is my cat Prince Miyann’s vet, few steps away from my home. I pretty much had a good experience with them, for check ups to operation schedules to recommendations for other services that they don’t offer yet. I love how friendly, peaceful and caring the vets are, my Miko is super happy too I guess which is odd, he usually hates vets but I guess it’s because they treat animals kindly which is really the most important thing for myself as a pet parent. So thank you!
Hello Sanaz,
Thank you so much for your lovely review and for trusting us with Prince Miyann and Miko’s care! It means the world to us to hear that you've had a positive experience, from check-ups to more involved procedures. We're especially happy to know that Miko felt comfortable—that’s such a big compliment coming from a usually vet-shy kitty! Treating animals with kindness and respect is always our top priority, and it’s incredibly rewarding to know it shows. We’re grateful to be just a few steps away and here whenever you need us!
Negative experience: From about a year ago.Absolutely disgusting human behavior from this vets . I brought my pet urine sample with Luigi over a week ago as the pet was crying and wouldn’t settle , paid in advance as you do, waited every day for the results of the test , called then yday , i have been told the vet will call me same day, no call, called them next day 2 times and insisted to speak with the manager only to find out they never run the test in the frst place and that I should bring another sample,,appalling service and this veterinarian clinic should not be allowed to practice for totally lack of care and empathy for animals . I have been with Carey & Keanne for many years but since this takeover its gone downhill fast and bad.if you care about your pet please go somewhere else.
Hi there,
I’m very sorry to read about your experience - this is certainly not the standard of care or communication we aim to provide. Please accept our sincere apologies for the distress and frustration caused to both you and Luigi.
It’s especially disappointing to hear this given your long-standing trust in the previous practice. We absolutely understand how worrying it is when your pet is unwell, and not receiving timely updates only adds to that concern.
We’d like to investigate this thoroughly and see what we can do to make things right. Could you please call us so we can speak with you directly?
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback it’s so important to us, and we’re committed to learning from this.
Village Vets Kilmainham
Fantastic experience: I love Village Vets. I’m on their plan which means I can visit a vet any time free of charge. I feel my dog Prince is in the very best of hands.
Thank you so much Christine. We love seeing Prince in the clinic.
Fantastic experience: My visit at Village Vets Kilmainham has been a great experience, and has been so each and every time we needed to visit the practice with Billy All staff are knowledgeable and paw'sonable, from the veterinary doctor, nurses to the front of house staff. I feel well informed and at ease that my Ginger's companion health is on good hands. Thank you all Billy & Cristina
Thank you so much, Cristina and Billy, for your heartfelt words! It means the world to us to know you’ve had consistently great experiences at Village Vets Kilmainham. We're so glad you feel informed and at ease—that's exactly what we strive for. Billy is a wonderful patient, and it’s always a pleasure to welcome you both. Thanks again for your trust and kindness!
Fantastic experience: Kilmainham isn't our usual branch, but we had to take our Bonzo for his annual boosters & Kilmainham was the only place with an appointment available. We had Claire as our vet and they were extremely helpful and kind, and really professional. Bonzo is really terrified of the vets so we dread bringing him in but the experience went much better than expected. Would thoroughly recommend Claire to anyone, really impressed :) thanks Village Vets.
Thank you so much for your kind words! We’re so glad we could help with Bonzo’s annual boosters and that your visit to our Kilmainham branch was a positive one, even with his nerves. Claire will be especially happy to hear your lovely feedback. We know how stressful vet visits can be for some pets, so it’s great to hear things went better than expected. You're always welcome at any of our branches, and we hope to see you and Bonzo again soon (hopefully with fewer nerves next time)!
Fantastic experience: I would highly recommend this vet practice! The staff were fantastic, very patient and gentle with our cat after her move from overseas. The team made sure we had all the information we needed and answered all our questions. We will continue using them in the future.
Hello Ash,
Thank you so much for your kind recommendation! We’re thrilled to hear you had a positive experience with our team. Moving from overseas can be stressful for pets, so we're glad we could help make the transition easier for your cat. It was our pleasure to care for her, and we’re always here to support you both. We look forward to seeing you again in the future!
Fantastic experience: Looks after the owner as well as the precious patient thanks for the mementos of molly doodles .nice gesture. Wow wow.anne.
Thanks so much Anne, we hope you are keeping well.
Fantastic experience: The best vet ever! Not only is everyone I’ve met incredibly competent, but they treat my pup with so much love and care he loves the place! As a pet parent they’re also incredibly supportive and have great advice. And the €25 monthly fee for their insurance is 110% worth it.
Hello Astrid,
Wow—thank you so much for the amazing review! We're absolutely delighted to hear how happy both you and your pup are with our care. It means a lot to know he loves coming to see us—that’s the best compliment we could receive! We’re always here to support you with advice, care, and a few extra cuddles along the way. And we're so glad you’re finding value in our health plan too. Looking forward to many more happy visits!
Fantastic experience: Rory, our pet dog, has been cared for by village vets Kilmainham since he was 6 weeks old. The service is second to none. The personnel are very friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend them to anyone.
Hello Stephen,
Thank you so much for your lovely review and for trusting us with Rory’s care since he was just 6 weeks old! It’s been a joy to watch him grow and be part of his journey. We really appreciate your kind words about our team, it means a lot to all of us. Thanks again for the recommendation, and give Rory a big hug from us!
Negative experience: I brought my cat to Village Vets Kilmainham on 6 May 2025 and paid €106.60 in full — €100 in cash and €6.60 by card. I kept both receipts showing a zero balance. Today, over a month later, I received a WhatsApp message out of the blue demanding €10.30 — with no breakdown, no explanation, and just a generic payment link and expiry time. It looked exactly like a scam. I genuinely thought someone was impersonating their clinic. I even called them to warn them about the message, only to be told I did owe the money — without anyone bothering to check their records. Thankfully, I still had my receipts. But what if I didn’t? Why should any client be expected to prove themselves innocent a full month later, just because a vague system message says so? It is unacceptable for a veterinary practice to: • Use client contact details to send WhatsApp payment demands without context • Communicate in a format that resembles scam behavior • Delay billing by over a month and then shift the burden onto the client I’ve completely lost confidence in this clinic and will not return.
Thank you for taking the time to review our page. We are very sorry to hear that you were are unhappy with the service that we provided.
Can you please email us directly at [email protected] and we can try to resolve this.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic service here at village vets kilmainham. Bonny our mini daschund got quite sick after chewing up something she shouldn't have. With the quick action of chiara and marthe bonny is on the road to recovery. Their attention to bonny was wonderful treating her like their own. Love village vets. Thank you.
Thank you so much for your kind words! We’re so relieved Bonny is feeling better and on the road to recovery. Chiara, Martha, and the whole team truly care about every patient like they’re their own, and it means a lot to hear that you felt that care. We’re lucky to have such wonderful pets and owners like you. Sending lots of love to Bonny and looking forward to seeing you both again!
Fantastic experience: Village vets are amazing that have looked after Toby since I got him , even finding me an appointment when they were full . I highly recommend them .

Fantastic experience: Always so helpful! We have the village vets health plan and such great value! Our boy cooper got sick in March and the team were very helpful and understanding. At first I was very worried about leaving him in as he wasn't used to being away from us but on day 2 dropping him back in and all the nurse were excited to see him, I knew he was in good hands. He now even gets excited going in a giving massive bum wiggles! Also highly recommend the pet plan for any one whos dog suffers with their anal glands as these appointments are included in the plan!
Thank you so much for your fantastic review and kind words, Megan! We’re so glad we could help Cooper when he was unwell - and it’s lovely to hear he’s now excited to visit us (we love the bum wiggles! ). Delighted to hear you’re finding great value in the Pet Health Plan too - it’s a great way to keep our furry friends happy and healthy. We look forward to seeing you and Cooper again soon!
Fantastic experience: Team was very welcoming and really gentle with our lovely cat. She received good treatment! The team was also very clear and provide us great feedback about the health of cat. They don’t push for procedures for which the balance of benefits risk won’t be good for your animal.
Thank you so much for your kind and considered feedback, Camille. We're so pleased to hear that your lovely cat was well cared for and that you felt supported and informed throughout the visit. Our team always aims to provide gentle, compassionate care and honest guidance, so it truly means a lot to hear your experience reflected that.
Fantastic experience: We received great service and support here, when our cat had to be operated at her teeth. All the vets were very caring, took a lot of time to explain the procdure to us, and gave great support for future steps. To us, this vet seems really trustworthy and caring.
Thank you so much for your kind words, Juliane. We’re really glad we could support you and your cat through her dental procedure - and that you felt well informed and cared for every step of the way. Building trust with our clients is so important to us, so your feedback truly means a lot.

Fantastic experience: We have always had an excellent experience of Village Vets Kilmainham.Though now part of a larger chain of vets it has retained the warmth and friendliness it has always had.Recently our cats Barney and Tyler had to attend for their annual vaccinations. As previously they were treated with great care and attention.Thank you to Marte and all the team.
Avryll thank you so much for your kind review! Were delighted to hear that you and Barney enjoyed your visit and look forward to seeing you all again soon.
Fantastic experience: Very kind and helpful staff. You can tell they really care about pets. Claire was lovely. Prices a little on the high side though. I like the fact that you're seen at your appointment time so no hanging around if there are a lot of dogs which can be upsetting for a cat.
Thank you so much for your review.
Fantastic experience: I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the wonderful vets and nurses for their exemplary care and treatment our elderly cat and young dog. They treat every animal as if they were their own and are the epitome of a caring profession.

Fantastic experience: Having attended Village vets with my poorly pet Yorkshire terrier (Lady). We were treated by a very nice and i must say very professional vet (siobhan) . Four days into the course of treatment Siobhan phoned to check i was admistering the anti and probiotics correctly. Show concern for Lady also giving me the confidence of a personal service which i hadnt receivd from any vets before. Thanks Siobhan and village vets Kilmainham.

Fantastic experience: My partner has always had dogs from a young age and when we bought out home she insisted on the Village Vets, and I must say they are so nice from the moment you walk in the door the staff just go over to greet our little furry family even before saying hello to us which is so nice to see, we have two Jack Russels on the pet plan and I have to say it's well worth it, with vaccinations, nail clippings, the discounts are amazing, we just had our Milo neutered, and the peace of mind and care he got was amazing, they phoned us straight after to tell us how he got on and gave us a time pick him up. Thanks to all the team at Village Vets Kilmainham Love Mila and Milo

Fantastic experience: We are visitors to Ireland and my Corgi was in GI distress. Village Vets, which was reasonably close to where we were staying and recommended by one of my hotel's concierges, was able to get us in the same day I called, and were just lovely. They made me feel confident that Gussie was getting the care and attention he needed. I would definitely make them my regular vets were I living in the area.
Hi Susan,
Thank you for your kind review, We hope yourself & Gussie are doing well now & enjoy the rest of your trip here in Ireland,
Fantastic experience: Great vets seen as soon as got there Bella was given a good health check got her needles no bother would highly recommend to.visit these vets
Hi Kieron,
Thank you for your kind review, We hope you & Bella are doing well
Negative experience: I don’t usually leave bad reviews, but I felt compelled to after my experience with this vet. I called in and was met with rude customer service, which was very disappointing!! I’m honestly happy I didn’t book an appointment because if the customer service is like this over the phone, I’d be concerned about what to expect in person!
Dear Sofia, We are truly sorry that you had this experience at our practice. We never want our clients to feel this way. If there is anything we can do to support you we would be happy to do so. Please could you contact us at [email protected] or call our team on 01 679 1975? We’ll work with you to resolve any issues as quickly as possible.
Fantastic experience: Excellent service as usual. The staff are very patient in explaining the details and friendly to our cats.
Thank you very much for your kind review. It was lovely to see you.
Fantastic experience: I was lucky enough to get an appointment at very short notice for my dog one Saturday morning. I found the reception staff very friendly and professional. The vet was also very friendly and calming. He really interacted with my dog in a very caring manner. I would definitely recommend Village vets to any one who needs a good vet.

Negative experience: I do not normally leave reviews but I feel compelled to leave one after the experience I had with the receptionist Nicky. My cat health was not improving and I emailed to ask a letter of referral to consult a specialist surgeon. My email was sent Tuesday and clearly titled URGENT. The other receptionist Rebecca replied by email that they could find my cat (Dango) in their files. I called back no answer. Sent immediately an invoice with my account and all my details. Did not hear back and ask for an update again by email. It had been 3 days and I decided to call again (Friday 31th around 10am) . This time Nicky, the receptionist answers. She starts telling me the issue was on my side because they couldn't find my account. (this is false because the vet had called me already on my phone 2 weeks ago) . Then nicky proceeds to explain me that "it was on her to-do list to get the refferal letter" but our usual vet was sick and if I want her to try to ask it from another vet. I answered of course I don't want my cat to wait any longer and be in more pain. During the call I pointed no fingers and kept calm but explained how I contact them several times and did hear back. No apology or empathy from her for the delay and emails ignored. I would think that to work in reception, in a vet clinic, you would need to understand how to priorities pets in urgent situation and some basic customer service skills. I really hope someone listens to that call because it was a very unprofessional attitude from Nicky.
Dear Elise, thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear you had a frustrating experience with gaining your pets letter of referral . I have tried to call you today to discuss this and I have left a voice message,if you wish to call me back on 016791975 or let me know a convenient time to call you again please do.
Kind regards
Sue
Negative experience: Unreliable service, we were booked for a checkup, they cancelled our slot an hour before (at 8am) via “voicenote”, lady at the counter was sympathetic, but i stressed my cat for no reason, paid 2 taxi rides and took a day off work for nothing.
Thank you for posting a review and we’re sorry to hear that your experience was not of the quality you expected. We would like the opportunity to investigate your feedback further. Please could you contact us at [email protected] or call myself (Sue) at 01 6791975?
Fantastic experience: I am the owner of Don Juan and Zion, and I have been coming to this clinic since I arrived in Ireland. I can say with absolute certainty: the team is simply amazing! The service is impeccable, from the receptionists to the nurses and vets. Recently, I had an issue with my dog, and they were absolutely incredible. I felt an enormous sense of peace knowing that my dogs are in the hands of such caring and skilled professionals. If you are unsure about getting health insurance for your pet, I wholeheartedly recommend doing it with them. I know there are many clinics around the city, but even if this one is far from your home, it is worth every trip. Your dog will be treated with all the love and care they deserve. I wish I could remember the names of the professionals who helped us so I could recommend them personally, but I want to express my deepest gratitude for their outstanding support and dedication!
Hi Marcela,
Thank you for your kind review, we are delighted to hear you had a pleasant experience. We hope you Don Juan & Zion are doing well,
Kind Regards
The team here at Kilmainham
Fantastic experience: My best friend... And chum.. Recently had unfortunately had to go to the next life.. The care and awareness that was given to our dog was second to nought.. Many thanks for the brilliant work u do.. Me and family forever in your debt...
Thank you for your kind review Tony. We are so sorry for your loss and hope we were some comfort at such a sad time.
Negative experience: Awful experience (2/12/2024) with vet who scalded us for following their advice, spoken down to like children and charged a fee for the privilege. A real shame as there are other vets in the practice who are good at their job and good to deal with but since taking over from Carey and Keane this crowd are all about the money. Thankfully found and moved to an independent vet practice in Dublin 12.
We are very sorry you were not happy with your visit here to village vets. Our sincere apologies that you felt the service that you received wasn't satisfactory.
Fantastic experience: Our dog had a routine check up and vaccine buster. The vet was very friendly and helpful. She spent a lot of time, discussing our concerns and thoroughly checking the dog. We are very happy with the visit.
Hi Gocha, Thank you for your kind review, we are very happy that you had a nice experience, Wishing you a very happy new year
Thank you
Negative experience: How to lose a customer... I had a bad interaction today with the receptionist at Kilmainham Village Vets. Dismissive and rude, I'm a long term customer and I was surprised to be treated like that. I was asked to drop buy before flying with my cat to get something to help her relax. I didn't make an appointment because I wasn't told to do so last time I was there to get the rabbies vaccine. Zero effort to accomodate me despite being very stressed out. I am very surprised by how poorly I've been treated by this very rude receptionist. This happened on Saturday 21st of December at 10am.
Fantastic experience: As always the staff are professional and very pleasant. Catriona our Vet is absolutely brilliant, very thankful to have her look after our little pet dog Sophie.
Hi Tom & Bernie,
Thank you for your kind review, It is always a pleasure to have yourself & Sophie here with us, We hope you are all doing well, Wishing you a happy new year,
Fantastic experience: The veterinary staff here are amazing, nothing is every too much trouble, we have to visit them regularly due to our dogs age and they are kind, supportive and flexible. I could not recommend them highly enough.
Thank you so much for the kind review. It was a pleasure to see you. Have a lovely Christmas.
Fantastic experience: My dog Marcel .who's a pug had 4 teeth extracted...no problems what so ever..and the after care is excellent ...I highly recommend village pets...and there pricing is the best I've come across....they've gained a new customer in me....
Hi Hilary, we're delighted to hear Marcel is doing so well and that you were satisfied with our services. We can't wait to see you both again soon, have a lovely Christmas!
Fantastic experience: we had a scary time last Friday morning our cat was making bad wheezing sounds and just lying against the wall in the kitchen so my wife called Village vets and spoke to one of the girls who told her to bring the cat to our local village vets in Kilmainham when he was so well looked after we are so very grateful to all the staff there for everything they do for our little man Maurice the vet gave him an injection and he is now on the mend thank god so massive thank you to Village vets Kilmainham for all your help John & Cora Agusta.
Hi John,
Thank you for such a lovely review, it was a pleasure to look after Maurice, We hope he is doing well since his visit. We hope to see you soon under better circumstances - Thank you

Fantastic experience: Thank you so much to Marte for her professionalism and kindness in what was an extremely upsetting experience. She also followed up with a phone call the following day to check how I was . A beautiful Vet with a heart of gold. Thanks again for everything.

Fantastic experience: Our dog Denzel is a very hyperactive, anxious dog. The amazing vets in Village Vets always look after Denzel and make sure he's in the best of health. The health plan we pay for is such great value and gives us peace of mind when it comes to keeping him happy and healthy.
Hi Emma,
Thank you for your kind review. It is always a pleasure to have yourself and Denzel here with us. We look forward to seeing you again soon. We hope you are both keeping well.
Negative experience: Very disappointed with Village Vets Kilmainham both today and almost every time I visit since Carey and Keane ceased to run the business. It’s no longer a local community vets, with the welfare of animals at its core. The original staff were always so friendly and welcoming and took a genuine interest in your pet. Today I had the displeasure of dealing with a very rude young man who actually laughed to my face when I tried to explain I was there to collect a prescription. He knew nothing about it and was unable to find it, even though I had received a call from them yesterday to say it was ready for collection. As they are now one of 18 branches he suggested it may have been one of the other branches I was onto and that I should have known which one it was I was speaking to! Despite the fact that when you ring the local number you can be transferred to any one of their other branches. When I produced evidence it was in fact that branch that had rung me he was able to find the prescription and hand it over to me without an apology or explanation as to why he could not find it originally. Not the first time that I have dealt with rude unhelpful staff there. Thankfully there are still some nice people working there, but if I had an alternative option in the locality I would not hesitate to take my custom elsewhere.
Hi Kira, we're very sorry to hear that your visit to us wasn't to your satisfaction. If you'd like to call the clinic we would be happy to discuss this with you. Kind regards, team KLMH
Negative experience: These are the worse vets I have ever dealt with spent nearly €500 on my dogs operation and numerous other things... they then gave out information over the phone the following Monday to someone who was not me after I told them it's my dog the broke the data protection laws by giving information and sending incorrect statements to someone's email address that was not me and she knew this... its caused problems in my family as I was attacked by my mother's sister and then my mother went and attacked her sister Tuesday over all the marks on my face which I will show a picture of and I have proof of everything as when I went back Tuesday and showed her all the video evidence and all the marks on my face over what false information they gave out last Monday via phone and email she said to make up for it she would microchiped my dog for free as they caused allot of problems I just went the vets now with my dog licence so I could get my exemption forms as he is a XL bully and was told I would have to pay for the microchip after being told it was done for free Tuesday at his post opp check I have all video and voice recording and photos evidence and u will be going to my solicitor first thing Tuesday and taking legal action how dare they the money I spent on my dog the will pay back aloyt more for the trauma they caused me and all the violence it caused in my family how dare they it's the worst vets I have ever dealt with very unprofessional and breaking the data protection laws also. But it will cost they alot more than the €500 I spent once I see my solicitor and take legal action Tuesday after the bank holiday would never use these vets again
Fantastic experience: I used to go to Village Vets Rathgar but I have moved recently to D8 and since I have the vet plan I thought would be good to visit the Kilmainham location. I really like the service, great welcoming reception and Dr. Siobhan treated my Kiki super nicely, carefully checking all her routine requirements. I definitely recommend Village Vets to pet parents that like to keep track of their health. Great to see that different locations have high standards. Thank you so much guys
